| Install 4: I'm getting a 1935 error message when trying to install Reference Manager 11. How can I resolve this problem? |

Answer: First, make sure you are using Windows XP or Windows 2000 Service Pack 4, as Reference Manager 11 is not compatible with earlier operating systems such as Windows ME, 98, or earlier versions of Windows 2000.
Usually this can be resolved if you make sure you are logged in as an administrator for the machine, and that all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs are completely shut down.
On most systems, the anti-virus or anti-spyware programs run in the background and may be difficult to locate and turn off. In these cases, you may need to enlist the services of your systems administrator to help you turn off this software to allow Reference Manager 11 to install properly.
One way to disable startup items is to use the msconfig utility in Windows. This utility comes standard with Windows XP, but does not come with Windows 2000. The version that comes with Windows XP does work with Windows 2000, however we are unable to distribute this program. You may want to search the web for a version of this file by clicking here. Again, this may be something you'd want to direct your systems administrator to do.
To use the msconfig utility, make sure you have full administrative rights to this computer, and you have turned off all anti-virus/spyware programs. Then do the following:
- Click Start, Run, type msconfig, click OK.
- On the General tab, click Selective Startup, and then click to clear the Process SYSTEM.INI File, Process WIN.INI file, and the Load Startup Items check boxes. Do not clear the Use Original BOOT.INI checkbox.
- On the Services tab, click to select the Hide All Microsoft Services checkbox, then click Disable All.
- Click OK, and then click Restart.
- Install Reference Manager 11.
- Click Start, Run, type msconfig, click OK once again.
- On the General tab, click Normal Startup and the appropriate boxes are automatically checked.
- Click OK, and then restart your computer.
